In both films, the first act of the story sees the protagonist having everything taken away from them so that they are at their lowest possible point before being introduced to their powers.

In Catwoman's case, Halle Berry's Patience is committed to working as a graphic designer for Hedare Beauty. At the start of the film, she's down-on-her-luck but happy with her job and her friendships. But within the first act, her boss tasks her with an unmanagable assignment, insulting her in front of the whole office and separating her from her close friend, Sally.

In Venom, Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock starts the film as a reporter who is pleased with his work and love life. He runs a show called The Eddie Brock Report and is engaged to Michelle Williams' Anne. But then before the first act is over, his boss gives him an unmanagable assignment that he doesn't agree with. Ultimately, he loses his job and his fiance as a result.

For the remainder of their respective films, both of these characters are down and out, pathetic characters who are only convinced to do things by the voices in their heads. For Patience, her feline powers are what tells her to stand up to people and even quit her job. For Eddie, Venom is a literal voice in his head telling him not to be such a loser all the time.
