13 Upcoming Superhero Movies That Could Beat Logan

Wolverine meets his match.

Deadpool Captain Marvel Black Panther
Marvel Studios & Fox

Logan hit cinemas earlier this year to a rapturous response from fans and critics alike, largely hailed as not only the best X-Men movie to date, but standing among The Dark Knight and The Avengers as one of the best comic book films of all time.

As brilliant as Logan is, it's just a matter of time before the next big thing comes along and surpasses it, especially with more superhero movies going into production now than ever before. Marvel Studios may be leading the charge with the Marvel Cinematic Universe's enormous success, but Warner Bros. and DC are making a ferocious (if divisive) attempt to play catch-up, and Fox's X-Men Universe shouldn't be discounted either.

That's without even mentioning the more outside-the-box picks that could sneak up and dethrone Logan as the comic book movie-of-the-moment. As fun as all the speculation and competition is, though, the most important takeaway from all this competition? There has never been a better time to be a comic book fan.

13. Thor: Ragnarok

Thor Ragnarok New Weapons
Marvel Studios

Release Date: November 3

Though the first two Thor movies were average-at-best, there's a lot of justifiable excitement for Ragnarok, considering that it features the Asgardian teaming up with The Hulk, has cast Cate Blanchett as the villain Hela, has scored Jeff Goldblum in a supporting role as Grandmaster, and is being directed by the brilliant Taika Waititi (What We Do in the Shadows, Hunt for the Wilderpeople).

Waititi's last two movies both have higher Rotten Tomatoes scores than Logan, and it seems likely that introducing his unique comedic sensibilities to the MCU may result in one of the most satisfying and entertaining comic book films in years.

In short, it'd be a shock if this didn't shoot straight to the top of the MCU's best films so far.
