14 Awesome 2015 Movies Everyone Thought Would Suck

13. Spy

Why It Should Have Sucked: Despite a stellar cast, Spy didn't promote itself as being much more than a lazy spy spoof, a comic sub-genre which hasn't exactly shown up many incredible entries over the years. Plus, marketing played up the fact that Melissa McCarthy again appeared to be playing the "fat girl who falls over a lot" shtick like her life depends on it. Why It Was Awesome: Unsurprisingly, the worst thing about Spy is the plot, but everything else? Pure gravy. The cast knocks it out of the park, and McCarthy finally finds a great vehicle for herself which doesn't rely entirely on her being totally obnoxious or constantly falling on her a**. Still, she's just one part of a stacked equation: Jason Statham steals every scene he's in as the hilariously ego-maniacal secret agent, Rose Byrne is sexy-crazy as the antagonist, and it's boosted massively by the R-rated tone, which is pretty rare for the spy spoof genre. This could've been a low-effort comedy and still been a huge hit, but instead it actually leaves one hopeful for a sequel which hopefully reels in even more unexpected cast members. We'll have to wait and see...
