14 Awesome Recent Movies That Actually Deserve Sequels

14. The Nice Guys

Shane Black's riotously funny neo-noir once again reaffirmed his knack for deliriously witty dialogue, savage violence and sassy child characters, while Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe made for a fantastically well-matched pair.

It didn't take long for fans to start begging for a sequel, considering the easily-franchisable potential of these two reprobates solving cases across Los Angeles, especially if it jumped forward into the 1980s. From the guy who created Lethal Weapon, it's a no-brainer.

How Likely Is It?: Sadly incredibly slim. The film only grossed $62.7 million worldwide against a $50 million budget, which isn't going to give Warner Bros. much cause to greenlight another. Fans will have to instead settle for the recently-announced female TV spin-off, The Nice Girls. What a shame. 2/10
