14 Castings For New Movies That Prove Hollywood Has Gone Insane

2. Billy Eichner - Timon (The Lion King)

When you consider that The Lion King live action remake has cast the original Mufasa, James Earl Jones rather than trying to negotiate replacing his iconic voice, you have to wonder why they didn't also do that with the film's other truly great performance.

In the cartoon, Nathan Lane plays Timon, the wise-cracking, neurotic meerkat and offers a hilarious, rich performance. He should have been asked back along with James Early Jones and it's a travesty that he wasn't.

Casting Billy Eichner in his place is just not the right decision here.

Will It Work?

Eichner is nothing like Nathan Lane in terms of vocal performance and unfortunately, putting him next to someone as recognisable and brilliant as Seth Rogen as Pumba is going to change the entire dynamic of the characters.

That's not to say he's not funny. He's just not the right man for the job.
