14 Crazy Facts You Just Have To Accept To Enjoy The DCEU

Three movies in, it's fair to say that the DC Extended Universe has had its share of growing pains, from the middling response to Man of Steel through to the far more hostile fan reaction to this past summer's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad.

That's doing nothing to stop the conveyor belt of DC movies coming down the pike, though, with another ten DCEU films currently due for release over the next four years.

The best thing you can do, then, is sit back, relax and come to accept the reality of this contentious franchise. It's not perfect and has a lot of room for improvement, but some things sure won't change, no matter how badly fans want them to. Come to terms with these truths and you'll find it much easier to just enjoy the movies on their own terms.

Here are 14 crazy facts you just have to accept to enjoy the DCEU...

14. It Will Never Replicate Marvel's Success

It's been clear from day one that Warner and DC's desire to build a large-scale cinematic universe was spurred on by Marvel Studios' success with the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The MCU has of course enjoyed unprecedented success since kicking off in 2008, with not a single of its thirteen movies flopping critically, while commercially their bigger tentpole movies are firmly in the $1 billion club.

Sadly, though, Marvel got to the gold first, and it's precisely with the DCEU desperately trying to play catch up that they appear to have shot themselves in the foot.

They're rushing through to the big team-up movies in a hurried attempt to grab those lucrative billion-dollar grosses, but Warner would be better off making peace with the idea that though they might grab a billion-dollar movie with Justice League, they're not going to be turning over that kind of money very consistently.

In many ways the DCEU is already heavily compromised by fan response to the three movies released so far, as well as the notion that the DCEU is a transparent attempt to copy Marvel's winning template. The DCEU may well straighten itself out from now on, but it's having a tough time weathering those inevitable franchise growing pains.
