15 Behind The Scenes Photos That Will Ruin Your Favourite Movies

The 15 photographs on this list could well ruin 15 of your most beloved films. Proceed with caution.

UniversalUniversal We watch films to escape the tediousness of everyday life. The stress of the commute, your partner's nagging, or T-Mobile calling you up notifying you of an overdue bill are all made instantly better by allowing yourself to escape into the world of a movie, with a fictitious group of characters who each have their own problems which we can laugh at. Of course, we know what we're watching isn't real, but since those early days when bards would regale a court with songs of knights and dragons, humanity has been able to switch off and allow ourselves to believe that the narrative we're presented with is akin to reality. We may have been able to allow ourselves to prevent the nagging bite of reality from ruining a piece of good fiction, but this doesn€™t mean that the escape from the real world which we enjoy so much cannot be spoiled. All it takes is one incisive backstage shot from a film set to remind us that we€™re engaging with a piece of fiction. Photos of this kind can often be forgotten, but there are some which undermine a film to such a great extent that they cannot be deleted from the memory banks... Here are the 15 behind the scenes photos that will ruin your favourite movies, forever reminding you that what you're watching never really happened...

15. Raiders Of The Plywood Ark

Paramount PicturesParamount PicturesIn his years spent plundering the ancient world in his free time while teaching classes in college for a steadier source of income, Indiana Jones has encountered some of the world's most valuable artefacts and relics. However, these all pale in comparison to the Ark of the Covenant; an item so powerful that even Hitler and his Nazis are on the hunt for it. It may surprise you to learn that this ancient chest of unimaginable value and power which is the driving force of the incredibly good first film €“ Raiders of the Lost Ark €“ is rather disappointingly made of some sort of plywood.

14. Phoney Na'vi

20th Century Fox20th Century FoxJames Cameron's 2009 blockbuster might not have the most original narrative structure €“ **Cough** FernGully **Cough** Dances with Wolves €“ but the sci-fi film was still a huge financial success thanks to it's incredible special effects. The visuals we encountered on the lush world of Pandora were so absorbing that we forgave the fact that we already knew exactly where the film's narrative was going. It is shots like this displaying the technology used to capture the alien species occupying Pandora €“ the Na'vi €“ and the Na'vi-human hybrids used to explore the planet which really undone the visual wizardry of the blockbuster movie.
