14. If Buzz Lightyear Doesn't Know He's A Toy, Why Does He Go Limp? - Toy Story

The "Plot Hole": Buzz Lightyear makes it very clear throughout the first Toy Story movie that he doesn't believe himself to be a toy, but why, then, does he still go limp and freeze like all the other toys when a human being is around?

Why It Actually Isn't: There are a number of explanations for this, the first of which is that it's merely programmed instinct for Buzz to freeze, and doesn't need to interfere with his belief that he's a space ranger rather than a toy.

Even ignoring it being an involuntary response, it can be further rationalised by Buzz not being especially keen to make himself known to such large, potentially dangerous targets.
