Considered by Richard Linklater as a spiritual sequel to his 1993 movie Dazed and Confused, Everybody Wants Some!! has perhaps suffered by way of comparison, and certainly didn't receive any kind of audience upon its release.

Following the story of a group of college baseball players in 1980, the movie finds Linklater in familiar territory that he does perhaps better than anyone else, looking at the coming-of-age period, of trying new things and self-discovery, this time filtered through an excellent lead performance from Blake Jenner.

There's a superb ensemble cast, a classic rock soundtrack, and an inherent sweetness to the movie that nicely fit with its humour. It's a huge amount of fun, but also deceptively clever in the way most Linklater films are, especially in its story's structure. Unfortunately, it only made $4.6m against a budget of $10m, has an audience score of 68% on RT, a 7/10 on IMDb, and nobody really seems to have noticed it.
