15 Most Iconic Modern Comic Book Movie Characters

ROrschach Comic book movies are all the rage right now with Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy just having wrapped up and Marvel's cinematic universe looking like it could possibly last the next decade or so. One of the main attractions of the superhero film is the characters, who appeal to audiences on multiple levels. Some of the characters are relatable because they seem kind of like us but with superpowers, some of the characters are fascinating to watch because of their search for themselves, some of them are people we'd like to be, and some of them are just plain fun to watch. For this list only characters from modern superhero films, considered to be since X-Men, are allowed on the list and previous incarnations of the characters do not affect the rankings. Factors in the ranking included likability, amount of character development, ability of the actor portraying the character, and their stature in the film world.

15. Bruce Banner

Bruce Banner On one hand there are three different modern movie versions of Bruce Banner, on the other hand, each version brings something unique to the character. While Edward Norton was arguably the best so far, Mark Ruffalo's take on the character is now the definitive version thanks to The Avengers and he'll likely become the first actor to play the Hulk in multiple movies. As one of the few superheroes who actively tries to get his rid of his superpowers, Banner is a uniquely sympathetic protagonist who is easy to root for. His inability to completely control his powers results in more tension among the other characters around him, something which was used to great effect in The Avengers. Mark Ruffalo brings a quite likability to the character that makes him one of the most interesting members of the Avengers and one of the best superhero characters the genre has to offer.

I love movies, literature, history, music and the NBA. I love all things nerdy including but not limited to Star Wars, Star Trek, Lord of the Rings, and Firefly. My artistic idols are Dylan, Dostoevsky, and Malick and my goal in life is to become like Bernard Black from Black Books. When I die, I hope to turn into the space baby from 2001: A Space Odyssey.
