15 Movies That Made 2017 The Dumbest Year Ever

Say goodbye to your brain cells.

The Mummy
Universal Pictures

The best and worst thing about being a film lover is that you get to watch all kinds of movies, from big-budget superhero movies to no-budget art-house dramas.

Cinema can't all be sharply-executed genre films and emotionally shattering meditations on the human condition, though, and for every Dawn of the Planet of the Apes or Get Out, there are at least a few films released so shockingly braindead you'll wonder how they ever got greenlit in the first place.

From lazy, pandering sequels that plumb newfound depths of stupidity to movies jaw-droppingly cynical enough to make you believe creativity truly is dead, these films are the worst and most ethically, morally and artfully bankrupt you're likely to have seen this year (or maybe you were smart enough to miss them).

Sure, a few of them might function as vaguely enjoyable trash if you're already mid-way through a slab of beers with some friends, but otherwise you'll need a severely masochistic streak to willingly suffer through films that set a new standard for how incoherent and feckless cinema can be...
