15 Movies You Wrongly Assume Are Terrible

Be honest, you just hate them because it's fashionable...

There are some films that people just love to hate, either due to a personal prejudice against the material, or because, simply, it's easy to jump on the bandwagon and relish bashing something into the ground. With their questionable methods, some filmmakers on this list are definitely asking for it, but that doesn't mean that each of these 15 movies was actually the disasterpiece that many love to claim. From an underrated video game adaptation to a franchise entry that soars high above the other, reviled ones, not to mention solid blockbusters that are just fashionable to dump on, these movies all brought more to the table than most seem willing to admit. Whether better-reviewed than you thought or just plain underrated, these 15 movies deserve re-evaluation from audiences with open minds, because if you separate them from the hateful hive-mind of the Internet, there's actually more here to savour than you could possibly know. Here are 15 movies you wrongly assume are terrible...

15. Mortal Kombat

What Everyone Says About It: "Every video game movie known to man has unequivocally sucked, and it's one directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, so how good was it ever really going to be? It's as cheesy and dumb as you'd expect from a mid-nineties video game adaptation." Why It Isn't Terrible: The original Mortal Kombat games were cheesy and dumb, so in a way, this is pretty much the perfect video game adaptation. It doesn't pretend to be big or clever, and the PG-13 rating is undeniably unfortunate, but in terms of capturing the feel and tone of the source material, arguably no video game adaptation has done better. Even without the gore, it's easy to see those characters coming to life in the film, though it did admittedly lead to the unfortunate dumpster fire that was Mortal Kombat: Annihilation, which effectively killed the brand's cinematic momentum stone dead.
