15 Movies You Wrongly Assume Are Terrible

14. Twilight

What Everyone Says About It: "The one that kick-started the aggressively awful billion-dollar vampire-werewolf franchise, Twilight is responsible for a series jam-packed full of terrible acting, a laughably self-serious plot, wretched CGI, and more gratuitous shirt-removal scenes than both Magic Mike films combined. Tweens may love it, but for everyone else, it's wildly inane mulch." Why It Isn't Terrible: As easy as it is to just dismiss the entire Twilight series, the first and third movies actually aren't bad at all, because unlike the others, they demonstrate a little self-awareness of their own absurdity, and as such are a little easier for non-tweens to swallow down. Even if the original Twilight is fundamentally ridiculous, it's a solid adaptation of the source material because it captures the essence of Bella's hormone-infused lust, hence why it connected with an entire generation of young girls going through their own blossoming period. For older viewers, it's daft fantasy but easily the best of the bunch because it knows exactly what it is and doesn't get too mopey, which is what ruined most of the sequels.
