15 R-Rated Comic Book Movies That Need To Happen After Deadpool

Let's hope the Merc with a Mouth starts a trend.

A few weeks ago, Ryan Reynolds answered the prayers of fans across the board when he revealed that his upcoming Deadpool film will indeed be rated R. Many were worried that the movie was definitely pursuing a watered-down rating - a huge bummer for fans of the comic and its character, known for his penchant for obscenity and gratuitousness.

Amid all the celebration for an R-rated Deadpool, another thought emerged: What will happen if Deadpool is a huge hit? It seems fairly likely at the moment that the film could be a strong box-office draw, so what would be the implications of that?

Recently a whole slew of R-rated films have managed to reach a massive audience despite the somewhat limiting MPAA rating. In particular, Clint Eastwood’s American Sniper muscled its way to a worldwide box-office of over $500,000,000 while Fifty Shades Of Grey managed to do the same not too long after. If Deadpool becomes a hit, perhaps this will open the floodgates for other comic book properties that aren't necessarily as "family friendly" as Guardians Of The Galaxy or The Avengers.

With that in mind, here are a few possibilities for R-rated superhero flicks that need to happen if all things go according to plan - from a prostitute who inexplicably gets superpowers to two separate vigilante Marvel characters who've already had three films each (but still deserve a fourth).

15. Fatale

Image Comics

A supernatural noir published by Image Comics and created by Ed Brubaker and Sean Phillips, Fatale chronicles the life of Josephine, an archetypal femme fatale who is seemingly immortal, having survived from the 1930s to the modern day un-aged, and also has a supernatural ability to hypnotise men into becoming intensely infatuated with her, whether she wants them to be or not.

A love letter to one of the great cinematic archetypes, as you might imagine from the title, it’s only fitting that something like Fatale should make its way onscreen at some point.

And one important aspect of a potential Fatale film is that it would be a great opportunity to make a truly unique female-led superhero vehicle. With DC and Marvel basically dragging both their heels and knuckles at this point, maybe it's time for a left field female character that not many have heard of to take the reins.
