15 Radical Superheroes To Diversify The MCU

14. Ghost Rider

Just as with other classic comics characters over the decades, there have been multiple variations on the flaming-skulled Spirit Of Vengeance over the years, as Marvel editors sought to freshen up the character for new generations of fans.

The current host of the demonic Rider, Robbie Reyes, isn’t the first Latin character to bear the name - that was Alejandra Jones back in 2011 - but, played by Gabriel Luna, he’s already shown up in Marvel's Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. on ABC, stealing the show out from under the regulars in the process.

The Johnny Blaze version of the Ghost Rider has already appeared in two fair-to-middling feature films starring Nic Cage in 2007 and 2012, but while there’s something to be said for the whole demon biker look, Robbie Reyes’ has a kickass muscle car - the ‘hell charger’ and a sleeker, less heavy metal look to his Rider form.

Luna’s performance as the tormented Reyes deserves a story of his own to tell, and Marvel could do with expanding their supernatural remit beyond the hippie-dippy, surreal cosmic forces of Doctor Strange. Resurrecting the Ghost Rider is a no-brainer - now let’s see if there’s a Hispanic audience aching to see themselves up on the silver screen as something other than a gang member.
