15 Weirdest Cult Films Of All Time

11. El Topo

Alejandro Jodorowsky is a giant in the world of surrealism and El Topo is often referred to as his greatest work. The film, which also stars Jodorowsky in the lead role, is about the character's quest for enlightenment as he and his young son travel through the desert. Along the way there is death, dwarves and large doses of Christian symbolism and Easter philosophy. El Topo has many striking visuals and is often breathtaking. It is also bizarre and challenging and forces you to look for the meaning. There are no easy answers with El Topo. It was also one of the first true midnight movies and had many admirers who watched the film under the influence, including John Lennon, which obviously helped to grow the film's reputation.
