15 Worst Movies That Somehow Won Oscars

Rappers, clowns and Sir Anthony Hopkins as a killer hamster...

Oscars Suicide Squad
Warner Bros.

It's sort of an unwritten rule of the Oscars that bad films can't make it through the filtering process. Only the very elite of films can even be recognised, even with campaigning playing some part in what gets recognised as great and what misses out. After all, it's not like the Academy would pick garbage simply because the studios lobbied harder than the true greats of the year.

And yet, despite the Academy occasionally limiting the number of films they even put up for the top Best Film gong because of a lack of perceived quality options, they've given out gold to some seriously iffy films. Some you'd class as mediocre on more charitable days, but there's no getting around the fact that the bottom rung of the quality ladder of Oscar winners is very close to the gutter.

Just imagine what happens if Suicide Squad manages to win this year as well. Cats and dogs will marry in the streets, horses will eat one another, a sequel might actually get made with Mel Gibson... You know, real end of days stuff. But the most surprising revelation is that it might not even become the worst ever Oscar winner.

It doesn't always take a masterpiece to win an Oscar...
