While there are exceptions, such as Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor and Spider-Man and Gwen Stacy (Emma Stone), for the most part superhero movie romances are pretty terrible; perhaps the poster-child for terrible superhero romances is the chemistry-free and entirely forced love story between Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman).

While both Hemsworth and Portman are extremely talented actors, there's only so much you can do with such a rushed and under-written romance and even they can't quite make this love story convincing.

Thor is one of the MCU's weakest films, but it does absolutely nail the God of Thunder's transformation from arrogant warrior to noble hero. That was a great bit of drama, so why was this love story needed at all? Answer: it wasn't.
