17 Actors You Didn't Know Almost Played The Avengers

11. Tom Hiddleston Was Almost Thor

Joining the same brigade as Sam Rockwell of actors who were deemed more attractive for villainous roles rather than their initially desired hero roles, Tom Hiddleston was in line for the Thor role before he was subsequently cast as Loki.

The decision to cast him as the villain, which was made by Kenneth Branagh - who should know villains considering he's played Victor Frankenstein and Shakespeare's Iago in past films - proved an inspired one, considering how much more appropriate Hiddleston's smaller, leaner frame is for Loki, the slightly runt-ish (but not entirely weak) envious brother, and how well the dynamic with the larger, more robust Hemsworth turned out to be.

Still, Hiddleston would have made an intriguing Thor, and there's even footage available of the future Loki in his blonde wig, on the other side of the good/evil divide, as included in the Thor DVD Extras...
