20 Actors Who Shocked Us With Their Singing Ability

ryan gosling singing It shouldn't come as a surprise to us, really, that some of our best actors also happen to be good singers. After all, they work in the entertainment industry, and most of them have probably worked in theatre at one point or another. If they grew up acting, they probably also grew up doing school musicals and taking dance classes. The things just sort of go together. But no matter how logical it is, it's such a fulfilling moment when you realize that an actor you admire is also a great singer. It's hard to explain, but it's kind of amazing to us ordinary folk that these people can possibly have natural talent in two separate areas that most of us could never excel at in a million years. At least that's one explanation. Anyway, here are twenty actors who, through good genes and hard work, also happen to be impressive singers. Lucky sods. Don't get me started on when they're singing, acting, and playing an instrument. It makes me tired just thinking about it.

20. Joseph Gordon-Levitt

jgl singing Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been acting for decades, getting his start in Hollywood as a young boy of seven. He's always come off as an incredibly smart actor, intuitively knowing the type of projects he should work on. He navigated his transitional years from child to adult with ease, performing in popular films like 10 Things I Hate About You as well as garnering critical praise in indie dramas including Brick and Mysterious Skin. Incredibly, none of his roles has really required too much singing. Which is a shame, because he's actually quite good at it. He frequently sings at concerts, where he'll cover anything from Lady Gaga to Nirvana. And of course, there's also his adorable songs available on Youtube with his fellow indie royalty Zooey Deschanel.
