17. Christina Ricci Was Almost Lex
Back in the early '90s, Christina Ricci was a rising star, having already made Mermaids and The Addams Family, so it shouldn't be surprising to hear that Hollywood was heeding her brand.
She apparently auditioned for the role - alongside My Girl star Anna Chumskly - but both missed out to Ariana Richards. Presumably Universal wanted someone less immediately recognisable, though Richards had been in a number of films, including Tremors, Spaced Invaders and Grand Tour: Disaster In Time. Only one of those films should ever be watched.
Ironically, despite landing the plum role, Richards effectively retired from the industry in 1998 (aside from a couple of low key appearances) while Ricci went on to far more significant success in The Smurfs 2.
