3. “Shakespeare in the park – doth mother know you weareth her drapes?”
- Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jnr) – Avengers Assemble
There were times in Avengers Assemble when it was plainly obvious that Joss Whedon wanted us to completely buy into the Cult of Stark (and given his own story arc in the plot it’s not hard to see the favouritism at play), but the upshot was that the man behind the Iron mask got to play with some of the best, and most charismatic lines of the entire film. “We have a Hulk” was too easy, but this critique of Thor’s dress-sense was a fitting touch to Stark’s supreme swagger.
4. “Argo f*ck yourself.”
- Lester Siegel (Alan Arkin) – Argo
If this isn’t already on a shed-load of T-shirts somewhere, the world of film-related merchandise has missed a trick, since the frequently uttered, and massively quotable mantra is as brief and devastating as it is catchy. It might sound like a disparaging comment on the film itself, but Affleck’s cool drama was up there with the very best this year.

A couple of lines in TDKR just before the one you’ve posted were pretty memorable as well.
“Do you feel in-charge?” and “And this gives you power over me?”
“I’m always angry.” That quote and the moment following it were the highlight of The Avengers for me.
When Gotham is ashes, you have my permission to die.
Nerded everywhere. It was messy.
No Hobbit quotes?
I didn’t particularly see The Hobbit as bad-ass. It’s a fantasy film based on a kids’ book after all, but it didn’t really feel like it had the necessary swagger.
‘Relax dr. Pavel, Now is not the time for fear , that comes later’- Bane (The Dark Knight Rises) . . . . .wasn’t that too gud to feature into your list . . . . , . ?
It wasn’t a theatrical release, but DC Animation’s The Dark Knight Returns had one of Batman’s most badass lines, delivered as he mercilessly beats the Mutant leader in front of thousands of his followers. “You don’t seem to understand, son. This isn’t a mud hole, it’s an operating table-and I’M the surgeon!” He then systematically breaks him down limb by limb.
The “Puny God” scene from the Avengers was absolutely HILARIOUS. Loki thinks the Hulk will be threatened by him, and Hulk just tosses him around like a RAG DOLL. That scene reminds me of an old joke:
A lion is walking through the jungle, asking the animals, “Who’s the King of the Jungle”. He asks an antelope, and a zebra, and a hippo, who all answer “Why, you are, Mr. Lion.”
He comes upon an elephant, and asks him the same question. The elephant picks the lion up by the tail and thrashes him in a similar manner to Hulk smacking down Loki, and tosses him into a tree. The lion looks down at the elephant and says “Geez, you don’t have to get so upset because you don’t know the answer!!”
In TDKR when Daggett is complaining about Bane’s “failure” he says, “where the hell is Bane?” to which Bane promptly replies, “Speak of the devil and he shall appear.”
F**k you, science!
I’m a bondurant, we don’t lay down for nobody.
