20 Most Depressing Film Endings Since 2000

20. Toy Story 3 (2010)

The Ending €“ Finally having escaped the evil (yet incredibly soft) clutches of Lotso, the gang of toys we had all come to love and cherish looked set for a comfortable few years in the attic while Andy went away to college. However, after Woody leaves a note to Andy which the teen believes to have been written by his mum, Andy goes to the house of Bonnie €“ a young girl who attends Sunnyside Daycare where most of the action of this final instalment takes place €“ to pass on his once cherished toys. What follows is a heart-wrenching montage where Andy introduces each of his old friends to the youngster. Depressing Because €“ It€™s a revelation that is periphery throughout the whole film but in this closing stanza it is inescapable €“ like Andy, you are no longer a kid. No longer can you run around caked in mud, make magic-potions with your mum€™s expensive Clinique cream or build a fort in the garden to keep the barbarians out. Watching Toy Story 3 reminds you that you are old and you will never experience those care-free years again. Those prone to depression may even chastise themselves for even watching a €˜kid€™s movie€™ like Toy Story. A Silver Lining? Andy€™s faithful troupe of toys will bring untold hours of joy to Bonnie. Like Andy, you have the power to help kids have all that fun you yourself had in your younger years.
