20 Hidden Drama Movie Gems You Can Watch On Netflix

15. God Help The Girl

The first film from Stuart Murdoch, the lead singer/songwriter of cult Scottish band, Belle and Sebastian, God Help the Girl is a drama-come-musical composed of new, quirky pop-songs written by the bandleader. If that sounds unbearably twee, then keep in mind that for the most part God Help the Girl is exactly that. That's not entirely to it's detriment, though, and while it has its moments of flippancy, God Help the Girl is mostly an infectious, endearing film, one bolstered by a strong lead performance from the ever-impressive Emily Browning (Legend), and one that contains some catchy, foot-tapping pop numbers (say what you want about Murdoch as a film-maker - and he definitely has a lot to learn - but the man knows how to write a pop-song).
