20 Hidden Horror Movie Gems To Watch On Netflix

13. The Awakening (2011)

all cheerleaders die
StudioCanal UK

This ghostly chiller is set in early 1920s England and follows hoax exposer Florence Cathcart (Rebecca Hall) who one day gets an assignment from Robert Mallory (Dominic West), the headmaster of an all-boys boarding school who claim to have seen the ghost of a young boy.

Everything she believes about ghosts all just being tricks and figments of people’s imaginations starts to unravel as she delves deeper into the history of the school.

What seems on the surface to be just another Sixth Sense-esque ghost horror actually provides an intelligent, effectively creepy experience elevated by great performances, handsome production design and plenty of twists and turns to keep you guessing.
