20 Hottest Stephen King Adaptations Currently In Development

The king of horror's screen adaptations all fans need to see.

For a long while, it looked like trying to adapt Stephen King's work to screen was a bit of a poisoned chalice. Most seemed to turn out disappointing and worse, it seemed like the great man himself enjoyed even fewer of them (infamously including The Shining). But in the wake of the success of It and some equally good TV adaptations recently, there's a lot more confidence about the place and studios are paying more attention to brand King.

That means more possible adaptations and more reasons to get to the cinema or onto streaming services in the next few years, if you're a self-confessed follower of horror's most famous penman.

Some adaptations that were previously announced have dropped into development hell and out of active development altogether (like the adaptation of The Ten O'Clock People that once had Jay Baruchel attached) and it seems unlikley that ALL of these projects will make it to screen. But at least there's lots to potentially be excited about as a Stephen King fan...

20. The Talisman

Status: Announced

Release: ???

The last we heard on The Talisman, according to Variety, Stephen King and Peter Straub's beloved fantasy novel is being adapted for the big screen by Amblin Entertainment, with Josh Boone attached to write it.

Originally intended to be a TV series, it's now set to be a movie as Amblin changed their minds with Steven Spielberg (who's owned the rights since the 1980s) admitting that it's coming "in the very near future." He spoke to EW and refused to commit to directing himself, but it's exciting to see his name with King's all the same.
