20 Most Ridiculous Moments In The Marvel Cinematic Universe

18. Thor & Jane's Out-Of-Nowhere Romance - Thor

The Moment: The wildly forced and unnecessary romance between Thor and astrophysicist Dr. Jane Foster.

Why It's So Ridiculous: Because Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman have pretty much zero chemistry, and their hooking up in the first Thor film adds absolutely nothing to the plot. It is just a studio cynically believing that an audience needs a love story to buy into everything else, which is dumb.

Portman tried to back out of appearing in Thor: The Dark World, but Marvel Studios exercised her contractual obligation, resulting in a begrudging second appearance where she couldn't even pretend to be enthusiastic. Though the romance felt slightly more convincing the second time around, it was still pointless and just wasted precious screen time.

Since then, she's only been mentioned in passing in Avengers: Age of Ultron and reportedly won't be returning for Thor: Ragnarok, so it sounds like we can just forget this ever happened. Plus, why the hell would Thor pick Jane over Lady Sif?
