2012 Films: Best And Worst Of The Year Awards

Best Picture

WINNER: Looper (dir. Rian Johnson) No film proved quite as intelligent, thrilling and provocative to me as Rian Johnson's superb sci-fi masterpiece Looper, another exemplary feather in the cap of director Rian Johnson, and easily his best film to date. With keen references to classics like The Terminator, this is one movie about time travel that confronts its potential paradoxes head on, and is all the better for it, while weaving an emotionally resonant narrative all at the same time. RUNNERS-UP: 2) The Dark Knight Rises 3) Argo 4) Skyfall 5) The Avengers 6) Lincoln 7) The Imposter 8) The Hunt 9) Zero Dark Thirty 10) 21 Jump Street 11) Robot and Frank 12) Searching for Sugarman 13) This Is 40 14) The Invisible War 15) Prometheus 16) Wreck-It Ralph 17) Compliance 18) Smashed 19) The Queen of Versailles 20) Jason Becker: Not Dead Yet Next up, it's Best Director and Best Directorial Debut.
