During the '90s, Spider-Man wasn't the only superhero franchise that James Cameron was potentially interested in being involved with. He also gave the X-Men a brief whirl with a studio pitch written by his then-wife (and future Hurt Locker director) Kathryn Bigelow. As the story goes, Angela Bassett would've been cast as Storm. Even when it was time for Bryan Singer to take the helm of the franchise, Bassett was still offered the role but turned it down. Halle Berry was then cast as the weather-wielding mutant. Bassett was a fan-favorite for playing Storm all the way through the 90s. In fact, after the Do you know what happens when a toad gets struck by lightning? debacle of the first film, many a fan wanted Bassett to replace Halle Berry in the sequel. Instead, Bryan Singer just gave Berry a better wig.
