30 Iconic Movie Lines That Are Always Misquoted

27. Star Trek (1966 onwards)

Star TrekThe Misquote: "Beam me up Scotty." The Real Quote: None/"Scotty, beam me up." Why It Was Misquoted: Despite being one of the definitive Star Trek lines, not only is this phrase never used in the original TV series, it doesn't make an appearance in the movie spin offs; there are a couple occasions of €˜Beam us up€™ and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home has €˜Scotty, beam me up€™. In a similar way to Sherlock, the phrase has been formed from existing elements and caught on because it€™s a lot more coherent than anything the show ever offered up. However, the producers of Star Trek have never gone in for fan service is the same way as Sherlock€™s.

26. Titanic (1997)

TitanicThe Misquote: "I'm king of the world." The Real Quote: "I'm the king of the world." Why It Was Misquoted: Unlike many quotes on this list, the real quote is thankfully as ubiquitous as the misquote. But it still hasn't stopped countless diCaprio imitators dropping €˜the€™ from his famous line. As the misquote€™s appearance as the name of an unreleased song on the soundtrack shows, it is quite easy for a simple preposition to drop through the net. But that doesn't make it excusable when YouTube clips of the scene get the line wrong in the title.

25. Dracula (1931)

2.DraculaThe Misquote: I want to suck your blood. The Real Quote: None. Why It Was Misquoted: This is more a misallocation than a misquote, but as it is consistently attributed to a film (and character) that never uses it, it makes the list. The line €˜I want to suck your blood€™ is intrinsically linked with the Bela Lugosi version of Count Dracula, despite there being no reason to link him to it. Quite where it comes from is hard to determine; the closest Lugosi says in the film is €˜I never drink wine€™ (saying €˜wine€™, not €˜vine€™ as is so often attributed).
