5 Awful Films That Are Actually Really Good

4. Spider-Man 3

SPIDERMAN-3-La-creation-de-Venom-et-de-Sandman Granted Spider-Man 3 is the weakest addition to Sam Raimi's excellent Spider-Man trilogy but that, in no way, hinders it from being a really good movie. It may well have too many villains but it excels in its treatment of each one of them. Venom is the perfect embodiment of what the entire film is about because it represents negative emotions while the entire premise of the film is overcoming those emotions- revenge in particular. Fans were generally pretty angry that Topher Grace was cast as Eddie Brock since Brock in the comics was a buff bruiser but Grace's casting was pretty spot on. Look at what Venom represents. He's the anti Spider-Man so he needed to be portrayed by another nerdy guy similar to Peter Parker. Plus Raimi has never been very concerned with following the arc of the comics too faithfully. Raimi also took a big chance by making Sandman a sympathetic villain and portraying Spider-Man with vengeful tendencies towards Sandman. Put it this way: one character spends the entire movie trying to find a way to heal his ailing daughter by whatever means necessary while another character spends the entire movie trying to take his vengeance upon this person. Which of those sounds like the hero and the villain? To sum it up Spider-Man 3 took a third rate villain and made him more compelling and human than any enemy of the entire trilogy then built the whole movie around the hero going through his most morally challenging times yet.

My favorite movies are Before Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien and Her so don't be surprised to see those pop up in my writing from time to time. I'm currently in school for Journalism/English and I have an obsession with all things cinematic on the side.
