5 Films You Didn’t Know Had Left Wing Values

3. Waterworld

waterworldThe Politics: Waterworld vindicated everything global warming theorists had warned for decades. The glaciers melt and the world is under water. And that's all in the first five minutes! However, besides acting as a basic leftist warning to the world about the impending doom of global warming, Waterworld also chose to model its villains after the Left's favorite target: Big Oil. Not only do the "smokers" call the Exxon Valdez their home, but Dennis Hopper's villain seems to practically worship a picture of "Old Saint Joe" in his office. The picture is actually of Joseph Hazelwood, who crashed the Exxon Valdez in the Alaskan landscape and caused one of the most famous oil spills in history. Kevin Costner's Mariner even uses the bad guys' own evil oil against them in one of the final scenes where he drops a flare on the boat causing a not too shabby explosion Is It Any Good? Waterworld is famous for being one of the biggest flops of all time, but it's nowhere near as bad as everyone says it is. Sure, it squandered a lot of potential and is basically a rip- off of The Road Warrior, but it's not a terrible film. It's mostly entertaining and has some amazing sets and some widescreen shots that are sometimes breathtaking.
