5 Franchises That Should Get The SHIELD Treatment

agents-of-shield With the extended trailer for Marvel's Agents of SHIELD hitting the other day, I don't think anyone is in much doubt that the show is going to be massive. Taking one of the most profitable movie franchises in the world and creating a serialised show to exist in the same universe and to run parallel with movie releases is a huge idea and one that looks set to pay off. Here is a look at the trailer. However, as with most things in Hollywood, once something is proven successful, there are most likely several other people jumping on the band wagon. I don't doubt that we will be seeing more and more tv shows based on franchises that could well turn out to be really compelling to watch. By creating a TV show around an existing IP, it allows the creators to explore that universe in a deeper way, flesh out lesser characters in the films, and reinvent older ideas of a franchise. From the agents, to superheroes to super soldiers, here are five shows that I think should be up next for serialising.

5. The Bourne Series

bournelegacy600 The Bourne series seems to be on a bit of a hiatus after Legacy. There has been little to no word on a possible sequel yet and that doesn't bode to well for the series, as generally we would have heard about it by now. Which is a shame because I thought Legacy was an interesting proposition and a decent movie to boot. However, while the movie franchise takes a break, I can see there being a great opportunity to expand the universe with a tv show. As was further elobarated on in Legacy, there are more than just Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross in the Treadstone project. Why not give us another agent part of this and other programs as a continuous storyline? Exploring the cause and effect of having all these agents run around on a mass scale and seeing the government trying to cover their tracks could be compelling to watch on a weekly basis. It could still be the action packed franchise we know, while not needing to globe trott or have quite as big a spectacle attached to it . Even if the shows producers wanted to go another way, there is plenty of potential to tell the story of someone who works with in the government agency trying to clean up the mess of agents going rogue and dealing with the moral implications of Jason Bourne and Aaron Cross. There is real story potential there and it would be great to see a smaller action-heavy series based in the Bourne universe.
