5 Great Film Candidates To Replace The Pope & 1 Terrible One

3. Father Bobby (Sleepers) - Robert De Niro

Robert De Niro Father Bobby Any figure of authority who seeks to do good in a difficult or troubled community deserves the highest praise possible: Michelle Pfeiffer deserves it for her work with poetry and inner city kids in Dangerous Minds, and Father Bobby (Robert DeNiro) definitely deserves it for his soul-saving techniques in the excellent Sleepers. If it wasn't for Father Bobby's influence, there is no doubt in my mind that Lorenzo and Michael would have followed their friends Tommy and John down the road of crime that would ultimately cost them both their lives. When the four boys were locked away for accidental murder, the abuse they suffered would be enough to turn any young boy to crime, but Father Bobby visited the boys to back up the strong foundation he had laid in their early lives, and he was the clearly the deciding factor in Michael's legal career and Lorenzo's work as a journalist against enormous odds. That kind of superhuman priesting is exactly why Father Bobby deserves to be the Pope. Plus, it might stop Robert De Niro making Focker movies, and you'd have no concerns over his ability to convince in the "role." And Father Bobby has previous in cases of suppressed child abuse, proving himself more than willing to bend the rules in order to protect the victims of abuse, which has got to be a positive step considering the acusations levelled at the papact in the past.
