Directed and written by James DeMonaco, the movie starred Ethan Hawke as James Sandin and Lena Headey as Mary Sandin. Set in the year 2022, the United States is a "nation reborn" with crime and unemployment at an all-time low. The ugly reality of the low crime and unemployment rates are due to the government mandated annual 12-hour long Purge where all criminal activity becomes legal. Even murder, theft, and rape are legal during this time. All emergency services shut down, and people are free to roam the streets killing whoever they want. James Sandin, a father and a successful home security salesman, who€™s made a killing selling top of the line security systems to his upper class neighbours to protect themselves from the purge, finds himself becoming a target to several. His son, out of empathy, lets a wounded stranger into their home during the Purge, who was - at the time - being hunted by a group of masked vigilantes. The group realizes the drifter is in the Sandin€™s well-secured home, they ask for the drifter to be given back to them, after the Sandin€™s were not able to produce him, the masked group decide to go after and murder the family instead. Finally after some extreme measures the doll masked intruders are able to break in and a violent, nerve wracking battle ensues with an unexpected outcome...
