We are now just under three months until the premiere of Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The film will be the third installment in what has been dubbed the Monsterverse, which also includes 2014's Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island, and will set the stage for Godzilla vs. King Kong in 2020.
In this Universe, monsters, also referred to as Titans, are the prehistoric, rightful rulers of the Earth and are now resurfacing due to human activity. We have not only been introduced to Godzilla and Kong, but MUTOs in Godzilla and a wide range of creatures, most notably Skullcrawlers in Kong: Skull Island. Godzilla: King of the Monsters will also bring classic kaiju like Mothra, Rodan and King Ghidorah into the mix.
With the premise that these creatures are not so much Gods or aliens, but species from a forgotten age, we can expect to see plenty more monsters in the future, both familiar and new. Sticking close to nature, however, means that some monsters you might know and love would be hard to adapt and may be left on the sidelines.
