5 Mega-Stars Who Started In Films That Nobody Saw

4. Will Smith - Where The Day Takes You

where the day takes you

Whilst Will Smith has never been a good actor by anyone's standards, he's somehow become one of, if not the biggest name in cinema. Collectively, his films have grossed over $6 billion, meaning that someone must like him, and despite his low-key beginnings in the film world, it didn't take him long to reach movie stardom as Michael Bay soon called to put him in Bad Boys. Will Smith's debut is perhaps the most curious on this list as he was already an established TV star - in fact, he was one of the hottest actors on TV in the early 90's because of The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, and it's a surprise he didn't choose something comedic to make his debut in. Where the Day Takes You is actually one of Smith's better films, which isn't really saying much considering his filmography features things like Seven Pounds, The Pursuit of Happyness and Wild Wild West, but it's earnest enough. It's actually the type of film Smith should revisit to save any credibility, but whilst he's collecting cheques for tens of millions of dollars, there doesn't seem much chance of that. A bomb on initial release, the film wasn't released on DVD until 2003 and was discontinued not long after, meaning that despite Will Smith's drawing power, there is no interest in the film, which is a bit of a shame as it's the only film on this list that's worth your time.
