5 Movie Heroes Who Would Never Have Won In Real Life

4. Jack Traven - Speed

What-Culture-90s-remakes-Speed In Speed, Jack Traven (Keanu Reeves) is up against Howard Payne (Dennis Hopper) and his dastardly plan to detonate a bus if it slows down to below 50mph. By the film's climax, Traven has successfully come out the other side and with the exception of a single stupid soul, saved everybody on board. The only problem being, if this was real life, they all would have died about 20 minutes into the movie. The thing is, buses just don't consistently go at over 50mph and that's without the very silly jumping sequence, but part of the magic of Speed is it's joyful absurdism. The whole concept of Speed is hardly bound in reality, but the idea of Traven miraculously saving the day, and then going and killing the bad guy just wouldn't happen in real life. Things just don't happen that way, Payne's vengeful plan would have succeeded in real life, no doubt about it. And decapitating someone does definitely not make Sandra Bullock fall in love with you.
