As the director of the Oscar-nominated Do The Right Thing and the critically acclaimed 1992 Malcom X biopic, Spike Lee is the perfect fit for this film. He often tackles social issues related to race relations, so is very well placed to bring this story to the big screen.

The film is also being produced by Jordan Peele, writer-director of the Academy Award winning Get Out, which became an unexpected success last year and, similarly to many of Lee's films, deals with themes related to race. It is clear that with this duo at the helm of production, it is almost certain to become a box-office hit.

The score is supplied by Lee’s long-term collaborator and five-time-Grammy-winner Terence Blanchard, who provides a 1970s R&B backdrop to suit the historical setting and is sure to impress those who enjoy the retro aspects of the film.
