5 Reasons Everyone Loves Pixar

4. They All Collaborate On Screenwriting

The Incredibles

In Hollywood, you usually have two forms of screenwriting: a writer/director who oversees the entire process, or a huge team of writers who chop up a movie over the course of years until the entire studio is satisfied. The latter form of writing is what many viewers blame for some of the shoddy, let€™s-try-to-please-everyone movies that feel watered down. With the former, you better hope the writer/director knows how to actually write, otherwise that self-indulgence may get the best of them.

Pixar seems to have a balance of both. Some of their movies employ a handful of writers (such as their first big hit Toy Story) while others have a sole writer/director being credited (such as Brad Bird writing and directing The Incredibles). What makes Pixar special in this department, though, is how these screenplays are pored over by Pixar as a whole, a little brain trust in a sense.

Before a Pixar movie hits the screen, the movie makers across many departments get together and offer ideas about the story, what works, what doesn€™t, what could be added, etc. They operate as a team to help each story reach its maximum potential instead of the other ways that Hollywood does it. In fact, this team dynamic has worked so well that Disney has often brought their other, non-Pixar properties to the team to get their feedback on it.

Most importantly, these aren€™t outside sources such as marketing executives or money-minded producers who want to change parts of the story to fit extraneous demands, these are all people who truly care about the movies they collectively put out. It shows in the quality of their work.
