5 Reasons Kevin Smith Should Not Retire

5. He€™s Too Good Of A Writer

clerks I€™m not sure why people find Smith so divisive. The movies he writes are intensely funny. I don€™t think it€™s fair to call his films sophomoric, because they are and have always been written with a great deal of intelligence and heart. The man has a great sense of humor and a tremendous wit. Who else could write such a great diatribe on the business ethics of private contractors on the Death Star? Honestly, who else was thinking about the realistic impossibility of Superman having sex with Lois Lane before Mallrats? For guys who love comics and have a sense of humor, this is great stuff. Of course it€™s trivial, but that€™s the point. Smith€™s detractors have always been people who never got the joke and where never supposed to. They€™re the kind of people who think the only movies that should be held up with any reverence are Ingmar Bergman films. That€™s not saying that Bergman films are pretentious or overrated but cinema would be terribly boring if they were all the same, and Smith€™s voice is such a great one to have around. He€™s an auteur as much as anyone else. He€™s not interested in having sweeping camera shots or panoramic views; he wants to tell stories about real people. Real people often live in a mundane world. People talk. People talk a lot. I wish the conversations I had in real life were as interesting as this€ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGOVbXF7Iog
