5 Reasons Sky Captain & The World Of Tomorrow Should Not Be Forgotten

5. Great Idea For A Debut Movie

http://youtube.com/watch?v=KqRvdm8jHz4 Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow had very simple origins, having been dreamt up by amateur film maker Kerry Conran. Conran had studied computer animation through a feeder program for Disney, and realised that the techniques used in animation could be applied to live-action. Without any previous experience, however, and as a newcomer to the film industry, Conran set out to put his ideas to work himself. Setting up blue screens in his home, he wrote and produced a short film, based on "this vague idea of a guy who flew a plane." With influences from classic comic books and movies from the 1930s and 40s, Conran spent four years developing a black and white teaser on his Macintosh personal computer. The finished product would serve as the basis for Sky Captain. What Conran made was an impressive short film, featuring antagonistic machines invading New York City, a journalist attempting to uncover the mystery, and an allusion to the heroic Sky Captain. Despite having such a simple start, the short film was seen by producer Jon Avnet, who convinced famed Italian producer Aurelio de Laurentiis to finance a feature length version.

I like writing about films and hope you like reading about them too. And watching them, of course.
