5 Reasons Why American Hustle Could Be The Best Film Of 2013

1. Setting

Timthumb 1 Needless to say, 'American Hustle' is a period film, a film that attempts to depict faithfully a specific time period. Set in the late 70's, the film has a lot to give in aesthetic alone. The trailer really doesn't say much: it does, however, showcase the look of the film, and that seems to have been its number one priority. Everything from the costumes to the hair designs for each character looks great, and as accurate as I am able to assume (having not experienced that time period personally). And that is only the characters alone. The trailer immediately gives the film a distinct, vintage tone, and displays briefly both the look and lifestyles of its central characters. Period films in recent times have maintained a solid quality and standard, with films such as The Prestige (2006) and The King's Speech (2010) to name just two. Though, there have been few standouts in very recent years. On the small screen, the obvious example is Mad Men, itself quite close to Russell's film's own era setting. 'American Hustle' is a one of a kind, for this year in particular, which could work to its advantage. It could help to resurrect a somewhat lackluster year in cinema, and end it on a high at Christmas time. With such a strong cast and crew, it's hard to see this falling short. 'American Hustle' opens in America on the 25th of December in the U.S. with no international date yet announced. Are you looking forward to David Russell's latest film?
