5 Reasons You Should Watch International Cinema

4. "I Don't Speak A Foreign Language"

What makes me chuckle about movies like Vicky Cristina Barcelona and Eat, Pray, Love is how many foreigners turn up speaking perfect English. The truth is though that most Spaniards, French, Japanese etc don€™t actually speak flawless English. Yet, an English language movie like €˜The Avengers€™ was No1 Box Office in all these territories. We have a mystery here Scoob! Well, no, we don't, not really. It€™s just that these crafty foreigners are dubbing or putting subtitles on these movies, yet, are miraculously still loving them. So why can€™t you do the same? Me? I am a subtitle man. I find dubbing distorts the original actor€™s performance. Even if I don€™t understand what the person is saying, I want to hear their voice. I mean, how do you dub actors as unique as Jim Carrey or Gerard Depardieu? For others, the constant reading of text at the bottom of the screen is a distraction and means they miss what else is happening in the film. I can respect that too. Whichever you prefer, just believe me when I say, not speaking the language does not mean you can€™t enjoy the film.
