5 Video Game Movie Adaptations That Totally Sucked

5. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

Playing the first Tomb Raider game was an absolute delight. An amazing plot, a beautiful protagonist and the good mix of gun-flights and puzzle solving made the game revolutionary when it released. The best part is, it didn€™t stop there. Increasingly, the games have improved over time (as seen by the latest Tomb Raider) and have not only portrayed the evolution of the plot, but also that of Lara Croft as a character. It seems like such a pity then, when we saw what the blockbuster equivalent of it was. Tomb Raider: Lara Croft was the first of two movies in the series featuring the alluring Angelina Jolie as the main lead. Unfortunately though, it was a far cry from what the game was all about. Don€™t be fooled by the movies pitfalls though, as it brought in an astounding $274 million in the box office (undoubtedly largely due to Angelina Jolie). Therein lies the problem though. The movie was great€for those who didn€™t play the game. To those who did though, Angelina Jolie€™s portrayal of a gun-slinging vixen and all round bad-ass who never slipped up seemed poor. The adaptation was over sexualised to say the least, and had so many gun-fights, it seemed like as if we were watching a Call of Duty movie. Tomb raiding it seems, was not on the agenda. And while Angelina never looked better (which is admittedly the only reason why I would watch it again), the movie was more focused on Angelina Jolie as Lara Croft, rather than Lara Croft, as a character.
