5 Ways The Harry Potter Franchise Could Be Expanded Even Further

What's next when you've conquered the worlds of film, books, theatre, attractions and merchandise?

Ten years after the publication of the final novel in the series and six years after the release of the final film adaptation, Harry Potter is as omnipresent in popular culture as ever.

Merchandise such as clothing, LEGO sets, Funko Pops and colouring books flies off of the shelves, Pottemore continues to attract users and the likes of the Harry Potter Studio Tour in Watford, the travelling exhibition that has spanned three continents and the Wizarding World additions to Universal's theme parks draw in visitors from around the world - 'the boy who lived' is certainly here to stay.

The 2016 releases of the Cursed Child sequel play and Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them prequel film have now expanded J.K. Rowling's universe further than ever, as narratives outside of Harry's own have been explored. Many have seen this as the author milking her famous creation for all that he's worth, but given that his enduring success has amassed her a net worth of $1.2 billion, who can really blame her?

Here are some of the few remaining as-yet unexplored avenues that could add further to that total if done right.

5. Graphic Novels

Perhaps it's because they're not a traditionally 'mainstream' medium in Britain, but Harry Potter is sorely underrepresented in the graphic novel arena. This is particularly apparent when compared to other franchise juggernauts such as Star Wars and Doctor Who that have frequently and successfully employed their release to expand their universes.

Beautifully illustrated editions of Philosopher's Stone and Chamber Of Secrets have made their way to shelves in the last couple of years. Presumably adaptations of the other five novels will follow in due course, but there is precious little else out there that shows anything of Rowling's world in graphic form.

Complementing these existing works could be a whole host of new stories featuring characters old and new in settings both familiar and untouched. Viable possibilities could range from a noir-esque thriller about Aurors fighting dark wizards (young Mad-Eye Moody, anyone?) to a prison adventure behind the walls of Azkaban.

Following British comic tradition and having an ongoing series with multiple different stories could also work, in the vein of childhood favourites like the Dandy and the Beano.

Alex was about to write a short biography, but he got distracted by something shiny instead.
