49. Snowden

Joseph Gordon-Levitt has the title role and Oliver Stone the reigns of this politically charged biopic telling the story of the NSA's most wanted Edward Snowden. The former CIA contractor infamously leaked damaging information about his country's surveillance programmes around the world and stirred up a hornet's nest that saw him fleeing to Russia in the search for asylum from his former employers.

It's a hugely intriguing story that feels like it was torn from the pages of a fictional best-seller, and the fact that it played out in real life makes it all the more intriguing. Hopefully, Stone can avoid the urge to grandstand too much, because he has a story here and a cast that should sell the film on their own.
