6 Annoyingly Repetitive Movie Trends Ruining Modern Hollywood

Oh another "ground-breaking" 3D shared universe reboot prequel? You don't say.

Making a film is a huge investment. In the past few decades, blockbuster production costs have spiralled to unfathomable amounts with budgets simply incomprehensible to the common man. It is no surprise then that many studio bigwigs are somewhat risk averse when it comes to signing these multi-million dollar cheques. When a tried-and-trusted approach to filmmaking heeds results, why not keeping tapping that lucrative keg? To try anything different is to play pretty fast-and-loose with valuable studio money, right? The swarm of sequels and remakes clogging up the release schedule certainly suggests this, but even standalone films are guilty of borrowing points of recognition from successful predecessors. When one picture strikes oil, others won€™t be far behind, waiting to fit snugly in its newly forged template. Hollywood needs this air of familiarity, and with it, a notable target audience and easily calculable box office projection. Trends are inevitable, but when does this surpass safe strategy and descend into mindless repetition? The following six Hollywood trends prove the most irritating. Be they bland, overdone, or just downright insulting to the eyes, cinemagoers may just need some breathing space from these all-to-often repeated aspects of modern cinema.
