6 Definitive Black Emanuelle Movies

6. Emanuelle Nera (1975)

black emmanuelle This is the first of the 'Black Emanuelle' movies, directed by Joe D'Amato and it establishes the template of 'Black' Emanuelle the woman - a sexy, globe trotting photo journalist who will do anything for a scoop. For her first adventure, Emanuelle is in Africa for a photoshoot. She is staying with a bickering couple Ann and Gianni, both of whom she begins affairs with. The atmosphere of where she is, is one of decadence - with high class colonial people sitting round the pool all day, getting pissed and then shagging like bunnies. Eventually things get too hot for our intrepid heroine and she flees Africa - with Gianni closely following her... Emanuelle Nera plays like a straight sexploitation film from D'Amato, there is little of the horror and violence that he would inject into his later Emanuelle series. For me, this makes Emanuelle Nera quite boring as it is just sex, sex, sex with a paltry storyline. However, many of you will find the film great fun, especially whenever Laura Gemser takes her clothes off (which is frequently). She is a stunning woman to behold and she always does what the role asks her to do with enthusiasm and charm.

My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
