7 Greatest Fictional Presidents

If you could tailor make a President, what would they be like?

Paramount PicturesParamount PicturesWhat qualities should the ideal President have? Personality is a must; they must be able to galvanise a crowd and keep the attention of the public. They must be able to keep calm and make a decision in a heated situation. It is crucial that they are not overly trigger happy, but they must also know when it is right to make strike against an enemy. Given this criteria, which fictional Presidents would make the greatest President in reality? We are drawn to aggressive and militaristic leaders in films, but in reality we would not want a President who is warmongering and aggressive; perhaps this is why the most likable fictional presidents are Democrats (or at least support their ideals, such as gun control or opposition to warfare). The Presidents included in this list are the ones who we would like to see in the White House; the ones who have the likability and the personality that would be crucial to a successful presidential bid. Hollywood is in the fortunate position of being able to custom tailor its politicians for its own purposes; this gift has given us an abundance of American Presidents on screen that enables us to see qualities in a politician that would be immensely popular in reality. Some presidents are intentionally terrible; in Superman II the President handed over control of the United States with almost no fight. Others are admirable; In X-Men 3 the President took an extreme yet understandable decision to launch an attack on Magneto at Alcatraz. Harrison Ford's President James Marshall in Air Force One showed necessary violence, but was arguably to happy to turn to violence to make it as a real President. Despite these poor presidents there have been many incredible presidents; these presidents are strong not because of speeches, but because of actions. They are the ones who have been rooted in some semblance of the reality of politics; partisan attacks, internal squabbling, tough decisions and an evaluation of the political implications of his decisions are crucial components for these presidents.
